Hi, I'm a Solidhelium user, and today I received this email.

Quote
Hi,

Due to company financial issues, SolidHelium must now shutdown. We have
had a great time hosting hundreds of unique sites, however because of the
lack of demand, we cannot continue our service.

All users who wish to have a refund via PayPal must email
billing@solidhelium.com with their username, hosting package and Paypal
subscription ID. We will only deduct the time you have used out of the
entire hosting term, minus setup fees from the total amount you have paid
(Applies only to users with a contract of longer than monthly).

All users will be given three weeks to backup until October 21 when your
data will be removed from the server. At that point, anything remaining on
our servers will be taken offline.

If you are a reseller, please find a suitable reseller and transfer the
accounts by asking your new host to transfer accounts via WHM. (Your
account files should not be altered if accounts are transferred this way).
If you do not know where to host your website, please search on Google for
a suitable web hosting company.

Our support desk will remain open until the end of October. You may at
anytime email our support staff for assistance with account migration to
your new host. Please send your questions and concerns there.

Best of wishes,
-SolidHelium Management Team

I'm wondering, is Swifthost going to close as well? If not, is there any way I can transfer my Solidhelium account to Swifthost? (afaik, both have the same hosting plans, priced the same as well).

Thanks in advance.

From my knowledge, Swifthost is hosted on same server as SolidHelium, so I believe it'll be affected aswell. Swifthost forum however is not hosted on SolidHelium server.

Hmm that's interesting.

I have to say I hope that e-mail isnt real, because it's not very professionally done and I think Leo could do better.

Other then that, I don't know what to say.  I don't believe Swifthost will be affected excessively, as I would hope Bruce would have posted something on the forum already if we were going to be SOL.  worried

As for you switching to us if we're not affected,  I don't think that should be too difficult, Bruce is pretty accomadating.

Unfortunately that email IS real, Leo has decided it was a little too much for him especially with the email problems we were having for the past few days.

With that said, currently swifthost.net is piggybacking off solidhelium.com, at this point in time, there is not as near the amount of subscribers required to keep the server running, HOWEVER, I will personally try to work directly with Leo to see if we can migrate some solidhelium users onto swifthost.net (if they want to)

Hopefully something will be worked out, even if swifthost.net can't sustain the server, i would personally keep swifthost.net running even if it means chipping in money every month and moving to a slightly smaller server.

Anyhow, hope that helps and gives you a little assurance. I'll post on here as soon as I get more information about this.

I didn't get this email because my account has not been working.  Thanks for posting it.

It is sad to see a good company go.  Bruce and Leo are good people, I hope things work out.

I have SO many headaches to deal with right now.  And this was a shocker.  I just hope Leo keeps it up until October 21st so that I have enough time to switch everything.

Hope the best for you guys.

the worst that can happen is solidhelium is gone, and all swifthost users will have to do ANOTHER server move, unless somehow swifthost alone can pay for the server... not too sure right now.

i don't want to let everyone go.. Sad

I'm glad to hear a response from Swifthost. If you could make that swith from Solidhelium to Swithhost, I sure would do it. And I'm confident that many more would as well.

Cheers

If I may ask, what's the monthly server rental fee now?

I'm pretty sure it's pretty high, even higher if bruce has to pay for it alone now.

Its not clear for me yet what all this means - I pay for two different services with Swifthost and I had the email. I am not sure if this means I am going to have to cancel my accounts and move them all away, or whether something is going to happen in the background that means that things just "carry on".

I sincerely hope it is the latter as I have been very happy with the service.

Is it possible that an email can go out that clarifies all this for swifthost users over the next day or so?

thanks

this is MOST likely how its going to work.

all solidhelium users have two options.

1. Move their account to swifthost and get a new hosting plan OR stick with their CURRENT one.

2. Move their account away to another host completely.

Now, when I mention "new hosting plan" this means there is going to be some re-working done to the current paid hosting plans, obviously its not doing its job properly and its not paying for what we're selling, so at this point in time i've decided upon only offering ONE single plan which covers everybody's usage at a low price.

Here are the approximates:
2 GB Disk Space
100 GB Bandwidth
Unlimited Email, MySQL, etc.

Pricing:
1 year for $7.95/mth (about $95/yr)
1 month for $9.95/mth (about $119/yr)

I've taken a few hours for calculations and it would be much easier to financially support the server with the new pricing structure than offering 3 different plans.

However, if a solidhelium user wishes to retain their CURRENT "price protected" plan, they are more than welcome to do so, but the single plan will only be offered in the near future.

...so does this mean there won't be a $2/month plan any more? Sad Rats, I may have to stay with the free plan... which is another thing, is the free plan going to stay around any more?

Okay - as a reseller, this is going to be interesting.
Will Swifthost be able to take us in, or would we be looking at another host alltogether? Finding a good reseller host is - interesting. SolidHelium/Swifthost was very good, and if I can keep us on with Swifthost, that would be just awesome.
